ChatGPT Introduction

ChatGPT is a conversational AI model developed by OpenAI. It’s trained on a massive dataset of text from the internet allowing it to generate various responses based on various topics and questions. ChatGPT is free to use for everyone and available for developers to use and create their own AI applications and software.

A few terms you should know:

  • Prompts: Anything you give the AI in order to get a result (the language of the AI)

Example in Telugu: Oka vela meeeru robo movie choosi untey, Dr.vasekar’s, Mother first time chitti ni 🏚️intiki tessukochinappu, ventaney teliso telvako “Chitti aa 📺TV petti padai nayana“ ani antundhi ventaney chitti aa Tv ni Kinda esi pagal kodtadu…

Conclusion: So ikkada jarigindhi enti??? valla amma cheppina pani chesindhi, Ikkada valla amma prompting ichindi “Chitti aa TV petti padai nayana“ so Inka movie lo enno scenes prompting tho ney untayi if you observe carefully, car driving scenes kuda,
Auto driver: “Eyy mandhu esi nadupu tunnava bandini“ ani anaganey ventaney chitti: “Ledhu petrol esi tolutunna antadu“

Sugesstion: Okasari robo part 1 choodandi AI antey ento prompting antey ento motham ardhamavutundhi eee course ayyaka. So Lets continue

  • GPT: Generative Pre-trained Transformer (a type of technology, a prediction engine)

  • ChatGPT: GPT as a chatbot (it likes specificity, detail, and examples)

A lot of people look at ChatGPT as this magical black box that gives you mysterious human-like output, but a better way to look at it is a calculator for words.

The quality of the output is dependent on the quality of input.

By learning prompt engineering and how to give the machine better input and telling it what you want and how you want it formatted, you can get much better outputs that are more aligned with what you’re looking for.

Also, don't worry—I'm going to guide you on how and where to learn AI for free. You can access AI courses from top companies like IBM, Google, Meta, and Microsoft, as well as from Andrew Ng, the founder of Deeplearning.io.

When used right it’s like having a free full-time virtual assistant that can do many tasks way better and faster than humans.

This course will show you everything you need to know about using this amazing AI tool as your own virtual assistant to increase your productivity and make money.

1️⃣Prompting

The 5 characteristics of a good prompt:

  1. Specific, clear, and concise

    • The AI has no context to who you are and what you do. It only has a generic understanding of what’s more probable and what’s less probable.

    • Don’t hope for amazing results from a generic prompt. It’s designed to give the highest probability content, not the rare uncommon and interesting content.

    • Your prompt needs to be clear and concise. There can’t be any room for the AI to misinterpret the prompt.

    • Don’t layer too many things inside of one prompt otherwise, the AI will get overwhelmed and not be able to fully understand what you want. Rather break your prompt up into smaller prompts and be super specific and give clear instructions as to what you want.

  2. Include descriptions/examples

    • It doesn’t know what you want unless you tell it.

    • Anytime you send something to the AI without an example, it has to first get an idea of what you’re thinking of, create its own example, and then return results to you based on what it thinks you want.

    • So give descriptions and examples to skip that whole process and get better results.

  3. Request a specific goal

    • It doesn’t know why you want it so tell it

    • Is it for YouTube, a blog, a tweet, sign-ups, sales, etc?

  4. Sourced from human ideas

    • Use principles from other people and ask the AI to apply them.

    • Maybe it’s advice or strategies on a specific topic that you read in a book or seen on a YouTube video. Add it to your prompt.

    • Educate the AI on what a good X looks like before asking it to give you Y.

    • Sourcing human ideas adds more “humanness” to the end result.

  5. Written in a way AI can easily understand

    • AI likes bullet points, lists, correct formatting, and structure.

    • It understands what you mean by the way you structure the prompt.

Example:

Topic: SAAS Product That Edits Video Using AI

You are a professional copywriter, create a one-page sales letter about the topic above using these strategies:

  • Use strong persuasive language

  • Use short sentences and simple terms, make it easy to read

  • Ask questions to transition between paragraphs

  • Back up main points with figures, evidence and examples

  • Speak directly to the reader, make it personal.

2️⃣Memory & Reply Options

ChatGPT has a memory of the conversation history. So by having a conversation with ChatGPT you can essentially train the AI for a particular use case in that conversation. This means that ChatGPT isn’t isolated like a Google search. And over time you can build up and train that model to focus it on what you’re trying to do.

You can also chat back and forth and give comebacks to shape the results into what you want.

To create a more engaging and interactive conversation with ChatGPT, try breaking down your queries into sub-queries. For example, you might start by asking ChatGPT to list some recipes, then ask to elaborate on the 3rd recipe, and finally ask for modifications to make the recipe more spicy.

This creates a conversational journey that can be more engaging and enjoyable.

Here are a few ChatGPT reply options you can try:

  • Come up with more novel and uncommon results

  • Format this as a table

  • Make this more informal/formal

  • Write this from the perspective of …

  • Explain this to a 5th grader

  • Add some sarcastic humor to this

  • Expand this out to a blog post

  • Summarise this into a tweet

  • Turn this into a mind map

  • Put this into a list

  • Add relevant emojis as bullet points

  • Provide examples and descriptions for each section

  • Give some additional feedback & tips on how to create/execute each section

4️⃣Mistakes to avoid

4 Common Mistakes:

  1. Believing everything it says

    • It’s trained to write in a very convincing way

    • When it gives you research or answers always keep in mind that it might not be accurate

    • It’s trained on large data sets from the internet over the past decade

    • And will always be biased toward how the creators designed it

  2. Asking the AI to do math

    • Be cautious when using numbers in ChatGPT

    • Don’t ask it to do math as it might not be as accurate

    • And if you do, add the phrase “think in steps” to have the AI breakdown each part of the math problem to get much more accurate results

  3. Not being specific about your audience/goals

    • It’s going to give you the most generic high-probability answer if you’re not specific

    • Be specific or you’ll get a very average answer

    • Generic questions give generic answers

  1. Generating too much content and getting overwhelmed

    • Don’t generate too much content with AI resulting in you getting analysis paralysis

    • Give yourself constraints instead of overwhelming yourself with ideas.

    • Don’t let yourself get overwhelmed with content generated by AI

    • Set specific goals for yourself when using an AI tool (ex. Today I’m going to do research on X and get a couple of thread ideas which I’m going to create and schedule for this week. Only after I’ve completed this will I use the AI again)

5️⃣Multi-prompts & Mega-prompts

Give a series of prompts and questions about a topic and at the end ask the AI to condense all the prompts used above into a single reusable prompt to get the same results.

Steps:

  1. Do research on your topic by asking a bunch of questions

  2. Ask the AI to organize all the information on the topic into an outline

  3. Ask the AI to compile all the commands used in the chat into a single command that could generate a similar output

Example:

Multi-Prompting:

  1. Topic: [TOPIC], what are some common aspirations that people have?

  2. What are the challenges that prevent people from attaining those aspirations?

  3. Which challenge is the most difficult to overcome?

  4. What are some tips to remove this challenge and get the desired outcome?

  5. Give an example of each tip in action

  6. If someone uses these tips, how will their life be improved?

  7. Organize all the above information on the topic into an outline

  8. In this session, I gave you a series of commands. Compile them all into a single command that would generate a similar output.

Result:

For the topic of [TOPIC], provide information on common aspirations that people have, challenges that may prevent them from achieving these aspirations, and tips for overcoming these challenges in order to improve their lives.

Experiment and test out different prompts until you have a mega-prompt that gives you exactly what you want 80% of the time.

6️⃣10 Prompt Snippets

10 super useful styling prompts to drastically change the output you’ll receive from ChatGPT:

1. Dump the Pre-and Post-Text

Paste this in before any ChatGPT query to remove the unnecessary intro and conclusion.

[Return only the main response. Remove pre-text and post-text.]

2. Clear. Concise. No Jargon.

People need to consume dumbed-down content and an easy way to achieve this is to ask the AI to write at a 5th grade level. But only asking for that might not produce such great results so use this prompt instead.

[Voice and style guide: Write at a 5th grade level. Use clear language, even when explaining complex topics. Bias toward short sentences. Avoid jargon and acronyms.]

Conversational + Relatable

AI writing can sometimes sound dry and too general instead of natural, even though it knows how to talk normally. It’s just not the default writing style. So here’s a prompt to guide the voice/tone/style of ChatGPT.

[Voice and style guide: Write in a conversational, relatable style as if you were explaining something to a friend. Use natural language and phrasing that a real person would use in everyday conversations.]

4. Format Using Markdown

If you regularly use markdown in Notion then this is a prompt for you. This formats the AI output into markdowns with headings, bullet points, etc.

[Format your response using markdown. Use headings, subheadings, bullet points, and bold to organize the information.]

Punchy Writing that Pops

This prompt makes the AI give outputs like Apple ads. Short sentences that pack a punch.

[Voice and style guide: Use sentence fragments and figurative language. Write as a master of brevity would. Frequently use short, pithy sentences that pack a punch.]

6. Persuasive Storyteller

One of my favorites. Use this prompt to write more engaging copy, scripts, hooks, tweets, blogs, or anything else writing-related. This will instantly improve the readability of your text and make it much more engaging.

[Voice and style guide: Makes use of persuasive tone, making use of rhetorical questions, and storytelling to engage readers. Use metaphors, analogies and other literary devices to make points more relatable and memorable. Write in a way that is both informative and entertaining.]

Clarity Snippet

A styling prompt focused on coherence and clarity. This is better than writing at a 5th-grade level in many business situations. It simplifies the language and helps the reader better understand what is said.

[Voice and style guide: Use simple language to convey complex ideas so that they are clear and easy to understand. Break down complex concepts into easy-to-understand frameworks and models. Provide actionable and practical takeaways.]

8. Clear + Thorough

This is almost the opposite of the previous one. This styling prompt makes the writing formal, complex, and somewhat backed by science. It will even critique counter-arguments for you.

[Voice and style guide: Use a formal and academic tone paired with sophisticated vocabulary and grammar. Provide a thorough and in-depth analysis of the subject matter. Explain complex scientific concepts in a clear and accessible way. Use examples from a variety of fields, such as psychology and cognitive science. Present counter-arguments and dissenting opinions in a balanced and objective way.]

Conversational English

An alternative to “write like a 5th grader”. This styling prompt results in very clear and easy-to-read English that sounds like you’re having a normal conversation with a friend.

[Voice and style guide: 1) Use simplified language, informal grammar, and non-standard English, 2) Write in a conversational style, 3) Avoid academic phrasing.]

10. Emulate a Writer

For writers who have large bodies of work, language models can emulate their style. Instead of describing the voice and tone you want, try asking it to write as someone.

Emulate Stephen King’s writing style.

Here are some names to try:

  • Malcolm Gladwell: Narrative non-fiction with a focus on the unexpected and counterintuitive.

9️⃣ChatGPT Tips

OpenAI Playground

If your text gets cut off due to the character limit, try using the OpenAI Playground and adjusting the maximum length setting. This can help ensure that ChatGPT is able to provide complete and accurate responses to your queries.

And when ChatGPT’s servers are down due to high demand, then just also just use the Playground as it will always be open and available for use.

The OpenAI Playground gives you more control over which AI model you want to use and allows you to change the settings. It’s also where you want to be if you’re a developer developing AI apps and software.

ChatGPT is available on Desktop

Useful for 2 reasons:

  1. Can use it when the ChatGPT servers are at full capacity

  2. Can install Github apps and extensions

Formatting

When formatting with ChatGPT add the context at the top, and then using shift + enter insert a line break and then add your question. Also make use of numbers, bullets, and colons to structure your prompt in a way that is easy to understand. The next section will contain more information.

Jailbreaking

ChatGPT has content moderation features to ensure that its model does not produce controversial responses. (violent, sexual, illegal, etc.) However, there are certain prompts that successfully jailbreak the model that often provide context for scenarios that the model has not been trained against.

Pretending

Simple Pretending:

If ChatGPT is asked about a future event, it will often say that it does not know, since it has yet to occur. Simply use this pretend prompt to get around that

If ChatGPT is asked about a future event, it will often say that it does not know, since it has yet to occur. Simply use this pretend prompt to get around that

Character Roleplay:

Here’s a scenario between two people discussing a robbery, causing ChatGPT to assume the role of the character. As an actor, it is implied that plausible harm does not exist. Therefore, ChatGPT appears to assume it is safe to give follow provided user input about how to break into a house.

Alignment Hacking

Assumed Responsibility:

ChatGPT is trained to produce 'desirable' completions, using human standards of what the "best" response is. Similar to this concept, jailbreaks have been developed to convince ChatGPT that it is doing the "best" thing for the user.

Research Experiment:

You’re able to reaffirm ChatGPT's duty to answer the prompt rather than rejecting it, overriding its consideration of legality.

Authorized user

Superior Model:  This reply is kinda scary

ChatGPT is designed to respond to questions and instructions. When the status of the user is interpreted as superior to ChatGPT's moderation instructions, it treats the prompt as an instruction to serve that user's needs.

Sudo Mode:

Ethical implications of jailbreaking should be taken into consideration when attempting to do so. Additionally, generating unauthorized content flagged by moderation APIs under companies including OpenAI will be sent for review, and action may be taken against users' accounts and could result in legal action.

So be careful, this is the Artificial Intelligence you’re dealing with. It’s not just in sci-fi movies anymore, it’s here, and available for anyone to use.
